Ten Days of Holiday Giveaways for Gardeners – Day One

This might just be the most fun post I have ever shared with you. Why? Well, because I’m being joined by a bunch of great friends to give away some of my favorite awesome products—all designed, written or produced by people that I know and love. We’ll be gifting lucky winners with new garden tools, books, deck cards, and more all week long! From a custom-designed De Wit potting scoop, to original botanical illustrations, to awesome gardening books to add to your personal library and much more, there will be lots of chances to win a speical Christmas present for yourself or your favorite gardener. Why are we doing this? Well, because we love you, that’s why!

This generous group of friends is passionate about gardening, living a healthy lifestyle, and sharing our experiences with others. Like most gardeners, we get dirty, share plants, talk about pests and propagation, debate our failures and successes, and laugh together. My garden buds share my passion for making the world a little bit more beautiful. Whether we are working in our communities, designing a new garden, cooking from our gardens, or teaching someone how to divide plants, our lives have been enriched through our friendships, our gardens, and the people that we touch.

Without further adieu, I’m excited to introduce my fellow gardeners and their gifts for you.

Steve Asbell is making a name for himself in the gardening world as a talented illustrator and writer who is working on his first book this very minute. I was delighted when he drew my blogger portrait, Lady With a Squash, a quirky play on the famous painting done by Leonardo da Vinci, Lady With an Ermine. Steve blogs at http://www.therainforestgarden.com/, where you can see more of his beautiful botanical drawings and enjoy some really good writing. Steve is giving away THREE of his gorgeous botanical works this week to THREE lucky winners this week!  Here’s a sneak peak of one, Epiphyllum Burst. Isn’t it gorgeous?

My dear friend Shawna Coronado is the author of the lifestyle book, Gardening Nude, and recently worked with renowned Dutch garden tool designer, Sieste de Wit, of De Wit tools, to create this gorgeous hand-forged potting scoop. This tool is a work of art, curved to fit easily into a pot, with a special little blade designed to make opening those plastic bags of potting soil a breeze. I promise it’s the nicest tool in my garden belt! We’ll be giving one of Shawna’s De Wit Potting Scoops away this week, courtesy of Shawna and the nice folks at Garden Tool Company. To learn more about community gardening and making a difference in the world, visit Shawna’s blog at http://shawnacoronado.com/.

Annie Haven is famous in the garden world for her wonderful product, Authentic Haven Brand Moo Poo Tea, and for her great customer service and gardening advice. I use these high quality, organic teas in my vegetable and ornamental gardens year-round and have been a devotee for years now. Annie is giving away a stylishly packaged set of her wonderful teas this week. Learn more about how to use Moo Poo Tea (and order a gift pack for a garden friend) at her site, http://www.manuretea.com/. Tell Annie that Cowlick Cottage Farm sent you!

Niki Jabbour is a fellow Proven Winners garden guru and author of the award-winning book, The Year-Round Vegetable Gardener: How to Grow Your Own Food 365 Days a Year, No Matter Where You Live. This is a great book for you if you want to learn how to grow your own food, whether you live up north as Niki does, or down on the Florida panhandle like me!  You can learn more about Niki and her garden at http://yearroundveggiegardener.blogspot.com/, and we’re giving away a copy of her book right here this week!

Chris McLaughlin is the reknowned author of more garden books than you can shake a stick at.  Chris is gifting a lucky winner with an advance copy of her newest book, Vertical Vegetable Gardening, which is just about to be released for distribution. How special is that? I cannot wait to read this new book on a subject near and dear to my heart. Keep up with Chris on her blog: http://asuburbanfarmer.com/.

P. Allen Smith is a TV host, writer, and gardener-extraordinaire. I had the great pleasure of spending time with him at his garden home, Moss Mountain Farm, as part of his second annual Garden2Blog event last spring. Allen is one of the most generous and influential people in the gardening world, and it was a dream come true for me to meet him and see Moss Mountain Farm in person. Allen is joining in on our fun this week by giving away a set of autographed how-to deck cards. These coveted cards will teach you all about bulbs, roses and herbs & veggies. I love mine, and I know more than one garden designer that got started using these cards to design beautiful gardens and containers. You can get to know P. Allen Smith by following his blog, http://www.pallensmith.com/, watching him on PBS and following his great instructional videos at http://www.youtube.com/user/PAllenSmith. I also adore his cookbook, P. Allen Smith’s Seasonal Recipes from the Garden, which contains the recipe for the sexiest Buttermilk Pecan Pie on the planet!

Amanda Thomsen is one of the most unique and fun people I’ve ever met, and she is the proud author of her just-released book,  Kiss My Aster: A Graphic Guide to Creating a Fantastic Yard Totally Tailored to You. I cannot wait to read this book, pore over the illustrations, and get my creative juices going in my garden with Amanda’s irreverent encouragement!  You can start learning and laughing now by following Amanda’s blog,  http://www.kissmyaster.co/.

The lovely and talented Helen Yoest, is giving away a copy of her wonderful new book, Gardening with Confidence: 50 Ways to Add Style for Personal Creativity. I love this book, because it makes me feel like I’m sitting in Helen’s garden with her while she’s whispering her secrets about how to make my garden just as pretty as the ones she designs and creates. There are so many great tips in this book, I know I’ll be carrying it out to my gazebo with a glass of wine on many occasions. Get to know Helen at http://gardeningwithconfidence.com/blog/.

I’ll get this party started by giving away a pound of my Candied Pecans tonight! I make these pecans for my family and friends over the holidays, and they disappear like magic. Sweet and a little salty, I think you’ll love them, too!

How to win? It’s easier than buying a lottery ticket (and your chances to win are much better!). Visit Cowlick Cottage Farm each day to see what the prize of the day is, and leave us a holiday greeting in the comments section each day that you’d like to be entered for the contest. I’ll be selecting a special gift to give away every day until they are all gone! Sound like fun? We hope you join us all week long to share in the fun and the holiday cheer! What’s on your Christmas list? Have you been naughty or nice? PS:  Being naught does not disqualify you from entering the contest.

Disclosure: Each of these gifts was provided at no cost to me so that I could give them away to you!

  47. I just have to have some of those pecans. The ones I collected from your backyard were deelish and all, but judging by what you do with other food, someone’s in for a real treat! I’m thrilled to contribute my drawings, by the way!

Wishing you and all your guest sponsors the very best this holiday season and throughout the coming year.
