A Girls Weekend in St. Augustine

There is nothing like an occasional weekend away from the everyday responsibilities of life to refresh and renew your spirit. So last weekend Natalie and I packed our overnight bags and took a drive to Florida’s east coast and America’s oldest continuously occupied city, St. Augustine. The old city on the harbor has a Spanish influence and a European feel. St. Augustine is a little touristy, but it makes up for the kitsch with loads of charm, historical architecture, a plethora of good restaurants and bars, quaint shops and friendly people. We didn’t have an agenda or a plan, we just strolled around and enjoyed each others company and the beautiful weather. I thought I’d share a few of my favorite photos with you.

A cheerful cup of coffee on the patio is a lovely way to start the day.

The view of the harbor from our hotel room and the scent of salty air inspired relaxation.

Anyone for a horse and carriage ride?

I love this display of handmade cherry rolling pins at the bakery, and I bought a beautiful set of Laguiole cheese knives from France at a great price!

An old cash register harkens back to simpler times.

The horse & carriage picture reminds me of my childhood. We had 6 horses and my father bought an antique carriage that needed some refurbishing. He ended up selling it. We had a pony and sometimes hooked Boots up to the cart. We usually treated Boots like a big dog. Had to keep him in the fence, though, when he started chasing cars like the dogs did. I think if I was to sketch one of those pictures, though, I think I would like to sketch the bakery one – cool French rolling pins. Love the pictures.

    1. What wonderful memories, Anne! Thanks for sharing them with us. And I love the photo of the rolling pins, too.

    Carolyn,
I received my Kiss My Aster book, and am enjoying it. I plan to pass it along to my daughter. I’d recommend it for a beginning garden. Accurate and humorous.

    1. Fantastic, Agnes! I hope you both enjoy this wonderful gardening book.

  4. Thanks for the waltz down memory lane! We visited St Augustine many times when we lived on the GA coast and when my dad lived in Jacksonville. A beautiful town that always wraps you up and makes you feel comfortable.

    1. What a great way of describing St. Augustine, Mia. You’re absolutely right!
