P. Allen Smith’s Garden2Blog, Part III

After visiting Marlsgate Plantation and P. Allen Smith’s original garden home, Gaines, we were off on yet another Garden2Blog adventure to a gardener’s mecca, Moss Mountain Farm. One of the best parts about Garden2Blog was having the opportunity to casually tour P. Allen Smith’s garden home retreat. I must have taken 400 photos inside the house, because Allen’s laid-back but elegant style is inspirational, and I wanted to capture as many of the details as I possibly could. Because it really is all about the details. As a foodie, I was hyperventilating over the gorgeous, sunlit country kitchen. Here are a few shots of my favorite room at Moss Mountain Farm. I hope you are inspired by them, too.

This is truly a cook’s kitchen. The Viking range has double ovens, a griddle and power burners. The open storage under the counters makes it easy to find pots and pans when you need them.

I love the farm-fresh heirloom eggs set out on the counter. Allen raises heirloom chickens and other poultry on the farm.

An organic tablescape adorns the expansive marble-topped island in the center of the kitchen.

There is a beautiful view of the gardens through the windows over the farmhouse-style sink.

Allen’s kitchen has a lot of supplemental lighting, because he films his cooking shows right here at the garden home.

Just in case you were wondering, Allen really can cook. We had this delicious grilled chicken salad salad for lunch.

And this fabulous Buttermilk Pecan Pie for dessert. It makes bloggers faint from joy. It makes grown men cry. I think my friend, Shawna Coronado, is going to devote an entire post to this pie. You can get the recipes for these delights in P. Allen Smith’s new cookbook, P. Allen Smith’s Seasonal Recipes from the Garden. My friend, Kylee Baumle, reviews the book on her site, Our Little Acre.
